The WWII American bomber

that changed the lives of ten Americans and the entire town of Weisel, Germany.

THEO DILLENBERGER

Is a dear friend of many Americans that have toured the Rhine Area of Germany with Alpenfest Tours. We have reveled in Theo’s barn and shared food and drink with him and his wonderful family. We have heard first hand of his passionate endeavor to discover and document the details surrounding a WW II aircraft that crash- landed near his hometown of Weisel. We have been privileged to see the treasured aircraft mementos recovered from the crash site. After many years of painstaking effort, Theo has published “Impact”, a meticulous description of his journey to unearth and reveal the truth.  Help make our friend’s book a success and order a copy today.

On March 9, 1945, an American B-17 bomber took two hits while bombing the industrial plant “VDM-Werke Heddernheim” in Frankfurt am Main and had to make an emergency landing near the small town of Weisel, Germany.  This singular event rippled through many lives with a surprising intensity.  Eight crewmembers ended up in captivity and the two others paid with their lives.  The residents of Weisel were thrust into contact with “the enemy” for the first time, and for them, the aircraft held possibilities that were then undreamed of…

Theo Dillenberger has reconstructed this incident in careful detail and in doing so, he has not only brought astonishing things to light, but he has also unearthed the long-hidden memories that have burned deep inside all concerned. Sixty-one years after that incident, Dillenberger has succeeded in finding living crewmembers in the U.S. and in initiating contact between those former soldiers and the townspeople of Weisel.

Through dogged research and determined ambassadorship, he has brought together these former adversaries and changed lives on both sides of the Atlantic, enabling a healing conclusion to the story that began with a tragic incident on a clear day in March 1945.
