Majestic Peaks & Palaces tour departs from Houston.

Saturday June 23, 2012

Tour arrives in Munich, Germany and travels to Werfen, Austria for a six night stay.

Sunday June 24, 2012

One of the highlights of the tour will be a quiet ride across the pristine Königssee Lake.  Along the shores of the Königssee, we will stop to visit the picturesque St. Bartholomä Chapel.  In the afternoon, we will have time for shopping and sightseeing in charming Bavarian village of Berchtesgaden.

The most famous city in the Austrian Alps is Salzburg.  Following a short walking tour, we will have plenty of free time to explore the city.  In the evening, we will enjoy a candlelit dinner concert with the captivating music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart..

Tuesday June 26, 2012

The Alps will surround our day’s activities.  Grossglockner is the highest mountain in Austria.  The alpine road leading up to it will take you though the most spectacular, unspoiled landscape in all of Austria.    Then we’ll traverse the narrow bridges and catwalks of the Liechtensteinklamm (Liechtenstein Gorge) and behold roaring waterfalls, misty rainbows and intensely blue water as it cuts through the layers of limestone and slate.

Following a pleasant boat ride across the Chiemsee lake, we will tour the Herrenchiemsee Palace, modeled after Versailles.   It is the largest of the three castles constructed by King Ludwig II.  Later, we’ll sing together in front of the memorial chapel in Oberndorf, Austria to commemorate the site where “Silent Night” was first performed.

Thursday June 28, 2012

Our morning adventure will take us up to Kehlsteinhaus.  This historical house was most famous during World War II as the “Eagle’s Nest.”  Next, we will see what has made this area of Austria so famous - -  SALT.  Dressed in white miner’s clothing, we will descend into a salt mine by train and slides, where we’ll learn the history of salt and mining.

We depart Werfen for the equally lovely town of Farchant.  Along the way, we will stop in the tiny town of Rattenberg, Tyrol, Austria   Rattenberg is known for its glass making and has an abundance of crystal glass shops.

Saturday June 30, 2012

Our day in Innsbruck will be a day to remember.  A short walking tour of the city will be followed by a delightful carriage ride and an Apple Strudel making lesson.  We we’ll top the day with an authentic Tyrolean evening, filled with lots of fun, folk music, dancing and yodeling.

Sunday July 1, 2012

From the picturesque town of Mittenwald, a cable car will take you up to the summit of the Karwendel mountain peak.  At 7,362 feet high, it offers magnificent views of both Germany and Austria.  After descending the mountain, we’ll stop in Oberammergau.  Famous for its woodcarvings and painted buildings, Oberammergau is overflowing with charm.

Without question, the landmark of German is Neuschwanstein Castle.  You can see for yourself where Walt Disney got his inspiration for Cinderella’s castle.  Later in the day, we will visit the remarkable Church in the Meadow, known as the Weis Kirche.

Bavaria’s capital city of Munich as much to offer.  Following a short guided city tour, you will have free time to experience the city.

Our first destination of the day is Linderhof Castle.  Linderhof is where King Ludwig II actually lived and is his most elegant castle.  A short distance away, is the Ettal Monastery;  the beautiful church sanctuary is worth seeing

Although you’ll won’t want to leave, it’s always good to be back home again.   Tour departs from Munich back to Houston.
